Tokyo Day 2: Imperial Palace Grounds
After a light snack with Godzilla - we headed back across the street to the Imperial Palace grounds... this area used to be limited to Emperors, Shogun, Samurai, and Ninja - but today the Beasts got to roam...
There are massive gates located all around the grounds... always an inner gate and outside gate with the same name (except inner is the Uchi-gate name and the outside one is the Soto-gate name)they were set up in a 45 degree angle to each other so if a large enemy attacked and made it through the outside gate -it would slow them down to try to turn as a group and make it through the next gate... there was also another moat and very high stone wall once inside the gates that enemies would have to make it over before they could even try to make it by the Samurai...
the first set of doors we entered (located across from Hibaya) was the Soto-sakuradamon and the Uchi-sakuradamon... once inside we came up to the Nijubashi or double bridge where we got to see a changing of the guard...
The trees in this area were so amazingly beautiful and the moats were filled with swans...
